WhatsApp automatically makes backups every day at 4 AM using your Local Time Zone and stores them on your phone internal memory when there is enough free space else it will be stored in external micro SD card(Memory card) of your Android phone. - First you Uninstall the WhatsApp from your phone
- Reinstall the WhatsApp again.
- During the installation process, you will be prompted to restore your message history.
- Tap Restore and everything less than seven days old is restored.
Recovering WhatsApp Chat History from older (less recent) backups
Do the following to recover your older WhatsApp chat history(messages):
- Uninstall WhatsApp.
- Locate and open the WhatsApp folder or backup folder
- Open the WhatsApp database or backup folder. Decide which backup file you want to restore.
- Rename that file from “msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12” to “msgstore.db.crypt12”.
- Install WhatsApp.
- When asked to restore, tap Restore.
Note: The WhatsApp folder or Backup folder can be found either in Phone storage or external memory card (SD card).
To locate the WhatsApp folder. Open file manager or storage and scroll down. You will see the WhatsApp folder. i.e. /SD card/WhatsApp/Databases folder.
Open the database folder and rename the file from “msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12” to “msgstore.db.crypt12”.
Note: YYY Y represent Year i.e. “2019”
MM represent Month i.e. “1”
DD represent Date i.e. “20”
Recovering recent WhatsApp chat messages without losing newest chat history
Note that messages sent/received after a backup and deleted before the next backup, cannot be restored. If you want to keep a copy of the newest WhatsApp messages, you can create a manual backup from your
WhatsApp > Menu Button > Settings > Chat Settings > Backup conversations.
This manual backup file will normally be saved as “msgstore.db.crypt12” in your /SD card/WhatsApp/Databases folder. Rename this chat backup file to something like “msgstore.db.crypt12.new” or “msgstore.db.crypt12.current”.
